What’s New???
Time has been flying by so
fast for me and the band this year that the last few
months seem like a blur! We've played a lot of new
places and made a lot of new fans, and I can't begin
to tell you how thankful I am for every second! I
feel like there's so much I need to type down right
now that it's kind of overwhelming. I guess I'll just
have a look back through my calendar and try to get
it all in this one newsletter...
The month of April took us
all over the map; from Kansas, Missouri, Illinois,
Indiana, to North Carolina and Maryland. The M.S.
benefit we played helped to raise more money than
prior years, so we're all real proud to have been
a part of it. And even though it seems like we always
bring the rain with us (lol), we had a great time
at Crusier's and Dog Day's with all our awesome fans
and some new ones too. We played a new place in Illinois
called Six Strings. It's a pretty cool college town
and I hope we get back that way soon. It was crazy
at the end of the night while we were loading out.
I heard some commotion going on behind me and when
I turned around I saw 6 cops tackle some drunk guy
right out in the street! Somebody had just a little
too much booze for night I think! We also made it
back to 8 Seconds Saloon, finally! I have to send
a big shout out to my "Corner Girls" up
there for being so patient with our return and for
bringing out so many new faces to see us! Thanks girls
: ) Y'all are all too kind to me! Hopefully it won't
be nearly as long 'til next time. And last but not
least, we played the Tarheel Opry in Jacksonville,
NC, for the first time. What a trip that place was!
From the Marines to the country girls and the crazy
line dancing, we had a blast with everybody. If you
ever get to go there, be sure to have the D.J. or
the band play "Fishin' in the Dark"; you
won't be disappointed!
May will probably go down
as one of my most memorable months ever. I finally
got to sign my record deal with WB on May 12! And
on the same day my producer Brett Beavers and I recorded
10 guitar/vocals for pre-production. It was a long,
but very exciting day. I took a break from the studio
and walked over to WB, met with everyone in the conference
room, signed all the papers, took some pictures, and
then went back to the studio to finish working! I
wouldn't have had it any other way though : ) The
rest of the month was filled with writing and more
gigs. And we finally got to play the Cancun Cantina
in Maryland. That place is awesome! I'd always heard
about it from fans and other singers, and now I know
why. They like their country music loud and they dance
of JD barrells; what more could you want at your show???
I also got to open for both Sara Evans and Little
Texas in May. Sara was amazing, as was the
crowd at Ohio University, and the guys from LT were
some of the nicest I ever met. The only bad thing
was trying to get back to the ferry before it closed.
We rushed out of there and just missed it! I think
we drove over a hundred miles to get back to the interstate.
Ugh. I'd really like to give that ferry captain a
piece of my mind...
I spent most of June writing
like crazy. I think I wrote a total of 6 songs in
the second week! We did a show for fan fair at a place
called Krazy Kat's. It went really well I think. I
also got to do my first meet & greet as a signed
artist before the show : ) And that weekend I had
a blast at the WB booth at the Convention Center.
I basically just hung out for 4 hours, signed autographs,
and played xBox with anyone who was up for it. I couldn't
believe how good some of those kids were at Guitar
Hero! I myself didn't do so hot. I think the racing
game was a lot more my speed, lol. We did
get to open for Jeff Bates in Arkansas, as well as
Jo Dee Messina in Kansas City. Both are favorites
of mine, so it was a great feeling to get to share
the stage with them! I don't think there are two nicer
people in the music business. Jeff and I both stayed
late until everyone was gone after the show. He never
ceases to amaze me with not only his talent, but his
hilarious one-liners! Funny guy... And Jo Dee has
to have one of the most beautiful and emotional voices
I've ever heard! She gives me chills when she sings
: ) Let's see, what else... Oh! I ended up not getting
to go to my ten year high school reunion! Bummer...
I was really looking forward to it. I even paid my
money in advance. I couldn't go because we had to
go in the studio the following Monday to start recording
for my record. So I guess it was a biter sweet kind
of thing. Hopefully I'll get to go to the next one
though. The studio time was nothing less than awesome!
We recorded 5 songs that day and I sang 3 of them
last week. We also did some overdubs with mandolin
and banjo. I was gonna sing more today but I ended
up getting sick after the long weekend we just had
at Dog Day's. What a great place to spend the 4th
though! Each night was jam packed with people and
hoppin' like crazy! That place is definitely in my
top 5 favorite clubs to play. Big thanks to Mark and
R.J. for having us in and always being so nice to
me and the band!!!
Phew!!! I think that just
about covers it all. I've been meaning to sit down
and type up one of these newsletters for a while now,
but I've just been slammed. I'll try to get another
one out there soon, as well as keep everyone updated
on the making of the album and everything else going
on. Thank you all for reading this, keeping in touch
with me, and being such an important part of my dream.
Hope to see you soon...
Lots of love,
Jason
